<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">Now that the weather in Boston has finally realized it's Spring, I've finally started working to grow my plant collection. My current favorite place to shop for plants is at the local plant shop, Niche. However I have purchased from a variety of places including Amazon and big box stores! </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;">I've had trouble keeping plants alive in the past, but this time I've opted for all fairly easy going plants, most of which are pet friendly (so they can be in locations where they won't be forgotten). I've also started growing my tool box which now includes a gallon watering can, a mister, pruning shears and a soil moisture meter.</span></div>

On February 21, 2019 Daniel asked me to marry him in Central Park.</div>

I had no idea when I started to plan the trip in February 2018 that I was planning my engagement trip! </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Thursday morning started off with us going to Ess-a-Bagel where we all grabbed a large breakfast and heading back to our AirBnB to pack a lunch for a trip around Central Park. We wound up walking alround the park seeing the major attractions like the Boat House and the famous bridge, until we found ourselves on the Northern side of the lake overlooking my favorite building view from the park. My sister, friend and I were all sitting on the rock but Daniel seemed anxious. He soon asked me if I would take a picture with him in front of the lake. I asked him if I needed my camera and he said no my phone was okay.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh431Ch0pYsuRTeMRmeX0qPuEXi4KEm6MWoMmdyaP9Cz9_hVtSx0GevNknRJ94x4KOrH-jhqRG0vnUkEYyqQx2Sktinsngnl8r8awxNE-CW8v1yTimgS7NMbkZmt2ltBf5cpD6MCMa0jF8V/s1600/DSC_6610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh431Ch0pYsuRTeMRmeX0qPuEXi4KEm6MWoMmdyaP9Cz9_hVtSx0GevNknRJ94x4KOrH-jhqRG0vnUkEYyqQx2Sktinsngnl8r8awxNE-CW8v1yTimgS7NMbkZmt2ltBf5cpD6MCMa0jF8V/s1600/DSC_6610.jpg" /></a></div>
The rest was a blur. I remember him saying "Kelly.." and then dropping down to one knee to ask me. He had his brother to catch a bus into the city to secretly capture the photos which turned out so beautifully. We celebrated by leaving the park and hitting up two bars -- one a dive and one upscale and honestly both were perfect in their own ways.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWpbB-W_7I4sOn_EdIwqNGp_bc7jAfm7PkBrOGbd2kLfiv7jIOQt8cJs2NX2EgbOvKuhW40m3XLb2YLV2VEnreenl9T1vxzKY3HDnJLlkP8S0pz_X5jeXNkb40xCjE7Olp8FXncuZO-YXK/s1600/IMG_2373.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1560" data-original-width="1559" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWpbB-W_7I4sOn_EdIwqNGp_bc7jAfm7PkBrOGbd2kLfiv7jIOQt8cJs2NX2EgbOvKuhW40m3XLb2YLV2VEnreenl9T1vxzKY3HDnJLlkP8S0pz_X5jeXNkb40xCjE7Olp8FXncuZO-YXK/s1600/IMG_2373.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
In honor of International Women’s Day, I wanted to address a question that has been sitting heavy on my heart lately: is this sexist?</div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Whether it be a snarky joke at a woman’s expense or feeling like there’s a glass ceiling I will somehow never break through, it’s a question I find myself asking far too often.</div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
The ultimate problem is that I have to ask the question at all. There should be nothing that causes me to think I’m being discriminated against because I’m a woman. I’ll repeat that again — I should not be consciously worried that I am being passed over or held back because of my gender. Yet here I am in 2018 and this is how I feel. </div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
How do you not ask this question when you hear men in management positions openly make jokes about women? How do you not ask this question when only 30% of your coworkers/classmates are women? How do you not ask this question when your own reproductive rights are seemingly always up for debate by men in boardrooms?</div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal; min-height: 14px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="color: #454545; font-family: "Helvetica Neue"; font-size: 12px; font-stretch: normal; line-height: normal;">
Today, I wear red to show my support for other women and for women in other countries who’s fight is much harder than mine. Together we will celebrate our accomplishments, mourn our losses and fight for our rights. </div>

<br />
If you know me, then you know I have a *slight* obsession with coffee -- more specifically cold brew coffee. I even wrote a <a href="http://www.kellydanielle.com/2016/08/cold-brew-is-best-brew.html" target="_blank">whole post</a> about my love for it a while back! So you know when I started hearing about nitro cold brew coffee, I needed to try it.<br />
<br />
Starbucks has had nitro cold brew for a little over a year now, but only at select locations -- so the brew alluded me until a few weeks ago. J.P. Licks, a Boston based ice cream shop, recently released their own nitro and sent out free small nitro and cold brew coffees to their reward card members. I promptly ran to the nearest one to try both and perform a taste test!<br />
<br />
I ordered both drinks black and ordered them as they should be served (cold brew with ice and nitro brew without).<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT1eDywpw6Dq1R3HROarq6hAXV44kXZUWKJQM8OrcJatlssGBWEmclFhYkCj_FGuTgXloIJqFchRFUdQ6zhFoUNEGLNiO17VYYCuWYIxJIXmYQlY7ogkrg8gvnjKKJpF4qT_vd6YHIReF8/s1600/IMG_7669.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT1eDywpw6Dq1R3HROarq6hAXV44kXZUWKJQM8OrcJatlssGBWEmclFhYkCj_FGuTgXloIJqFchRFUdQ6zhFoUNEGLNiO17VYYCuWYIxJIXmYQlY7ogkrg8gvnjKKJpF4qT_vd6YHIReF8/s1600/IMG_7669.jpg" /></a></div>
The cold brew tasted as expected -- slightly sweet, slightly bitter and relatively smooth.<br />
<br />
The nitro brew was unbelievable.<br />

I normally don't drink my coffee black, even with cold brew, just because I prefer the milk or cream to further smooth out my cold brew. It would be completely unnecessary with the nitro cold brew and I actually loved it black. It was smooth and sweet and honestly tasted nothing like what I'm used to coffee tasting like. It was also interesting that it had foam like a Guinness. I was blown away and hope nitro cold brew starts becoming more common because the only downside is it's not offered everywhere!<br />
<br />
Have you tried nitro cold brew yet? What were your thoughts?<br />

(I always joked the farthest West I'd gone was Iowa, and that it didn't really count!) Lucky for me, in the year and a half I've worked at my job, I've been sent out on two business trips to the West!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv0RlX6tu0uhodaEpZ-fpOmjhQgLaMlOvlrvBPSOCuGw5pwmk2slpF2S4KdLwUoNln0ZTL1YyCBTEyc_BRQl7YVQRCXsAe5q4uJBqurXBga-A6wnNo66_mlA9fqDkoHhyphenhyphenJ03Siqc0sq9Gv/s1600/IMG_7715.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv0RlX6tu0uhodaEpZ-fpOmjhQgLaMlOvlrvBPSOCuGw5pwmk2slpF2S4KdLwUoNln0ZTL1YyCBTEyc_BRQl7YVQRCXsAe5q4uJBqurXBga-A6wnNo66_mlA9fqDkoHhyphenhyphenJ03Siqc0sq9Gv/s1600/IMG_7715.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
The first trip was great, but I only went out a day early to do some exploring in San Francisco and then was in Pleasanton attending meetings for the rest of the trip. The trip I just got back from a couple of weeks ago I was able to go to Seattle and Salt Lake City on business and then decided to have a fun weekend in San Diego with a friend!<br />
<br />
It's definitely a toss up between Seattle and San Diego as to which was my favorite city. I loved Seattle because it was beautiful and walkable. I also got to spend a lot of time on boats during my trip thanks to my wonderful friend (and coworker). I was able to attend the Pink Boat Regatta on my last day in the city and it was incredible -- so much pink, boats, and love for breast cancer research!<br />

I also spent a fair amount of time at Pike Market which was amazing and the food all over the city was unbelievable.<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I don't have many pictures from Salt Lake City, but it was also such an interesting place. I saw the Salt Lake City Temple for the LDS Church, drank a beer named the Polygamy Porter, and saw a indie film at a theater associated with Sundance. Everywhere I went in the valley, it was like the mountains followed us too. I want to go back someday to ski because I saw ski resort signs everywhere!</div>

If you knew me while I was in college, you'd know that I was <i>not</i> a cook. It wasn't even until after I started dating Daniel that I owned a cutting board! It's not that I didn't know anyone who could cook -- my dad is a great cook and would always make scrumptious dishes for us and my grandmother can make the most delicious desserts imaginable -- I just didn't.<br />
<br />
Cooking was one of the things that Daniel and I did together when we would visit each other after we first started dating, and my skill and appreciation has increased from there. From time to time now, I just need to cook and spend time creating in the kitchen -- and these bars are a result of that!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
The strawberry rhubarb bars were a happy mistake -- I originally wanted to make boiled peanuts, but what d'ya know, you can't find raw peanuts in the North very easily. Strawberry rhubarb is definitely a flavor profile that I came to appreciate from my time spent living in Lancaster, PA. I actually have some strawberry rhubarb jam in my fridge right now that I picked up at the Central Market from our weekend trip a few months ago!<br />
<br />
While living in Lancaster, I did make a rendition of these bars but only with rhubarb. They were good, but not as great as I wanted them to be. I think the strawberry in the recipe this time really brings the bars over the top and I loved that both the strawberries and rhubarb that I found were locally grown in Massachusetts!<br />
<br />

If you want to make some of the bars, find the recipe I used <a href="http://www.countryliving.com/food-drinks/recipes/a41984/strawberry-rhubarb-shortbread-bars-recipe/" target="_blank">here</a>! It was super easy to follow. The only ingredients I left out were the lemon zest (I put in a squeeze of lemon juice instead) and the food coloring (I didn't need it with how ripe the strawberries were). I'd love to hear what you think if you make them or if you have any other recipes that you've loved recently!Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09523973826552123666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2720866779394122866.post-91725336962692864942017-08-14T00:45:00.002-04:002017-08-14T00:48:38.195-04:00The Cat's Meow -- Kate Spade Surprise Sale is Here!Kate Spade is a staple in my accessory collection. It all started a few years ago when my best friends (see a post about them <a href="http://www.kellydanielle.com/2017/08/the-family-i-chose.html" target="_blank">here)</a> and I went to the new outlet mall that opened up near us. My first purchase was a bow ring inspired by one of my fave bloggers Carly (see her blog <a href="http://www.thecollegeprepster.com/" target="_blank">here</a>). My collection has come a long way since then -- you will rarely catch me without a Kate Spade bag over my shoulder! I've rounded up a few favorites from their current Surprise Sale below:<br />

When I saw this in store a few weeks ago, it almost left the store with me. It's too cute! Ultimately I passed it up due to it being a small bag, but if I didn't already own a Kate Spade "going out" bag, this would be my go to!</div>

<br />
In honor of National Friendship Day, I wanted to dedicate a post to my awesome belles -- Jamie and Sarah. I am so grateful to call them my friends and for them both being there for me throughout the years. (Still can't believe I can say years here, makes me think we are getting too old!)<br />
<br />
Our origin story dates back to Spring Break of our senior year of high school. We had all known each other and hung out previously, but this was the trip that bonded us together -- mostly because none of us were interested in 'partying' with our other high school acquaintances and just wanted a chill vacation. There's one particular memory I have of the trip where we were cruizin' in my VW Beetle down the strip in PCB with Jamie in the backseat, Sarah in the passenger and me driving with the windows down. We were watching all the drunk people stumble down the street and past the cars and this one particular guy got really excited and ran through the middle of the cars screaming excitedly offering high fives -- so I stuck my hand out the window to give him one. It was hilarious until I realized his hand was wet with who knows what and my sudden germaphobe took over. I squeamishly asked if anyone had hand sanitizer in the car at just about the same time Jamie offered me some. As all three of us burst out into laughter, I knew then that we were meant to be lifelong friends.<br />
<br />
There are so many similar funny memories I could share from college as well -- like a certain night involving Jolly Rancher vodka -- and even now, with me living 1,096 miles away, we still continue to make memories and share our lives together. These ladies are the family I chose, and I'm so glad we chose each other.Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09523973826552123666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2720866779394122866.post-70153267650437986582017-08-01T01:04:00.002-04:002017-08-01T01:07:40.765-04:005 Things I Didn't Do Before 25 ⎯ and Why I'm Glad I Didn't<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSAUlT9AD1B_4CSaEAs5l6FToU3zXbeFqPeLvg3EG_MxVdG-gaVrZVsdjFKOHVxCofezpIwFDcSz_q2HooYquyt67ZG1uOG9Vl2OOkqxbq36C5X_OcG9gdeIG9m5sKaVn3FEwltiFAieR/s1600/IMG_7491.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1600" data-original-width="1067" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigSAUlT9AD1B_4CSaEAs5l6FToU3zXbeFqPeLvg3EG_MxVdG-gaVrZVsdjFKOHVxCofezpIwFDcSz_q2HooYquyt67ZG1uOG9Vl2OOkqxbq36C5X_OcG9gdeIG9m5sKaVn3FEwltiFAieR/s1600/IMG_7491.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I've been twenty-five for almost a month now ⎯ and it still feels weird to say it. Since my birthday, I've spent a lot of time reflecting on what I thought twenty-five would bring me and why I'm glad I had so many misconceptions about where my life would lead so far. So here's a list of things I didn't do before turning the big two five:<br />
<br />
<b>1 | Get married </b><br />
When I was younger, I always believed that by twenty-five, I would be married and ready to start a family. The idea behind this was that everyone in their mid-twenties were adults and that's what adults do. Where I'm at now, marriage isn't something that is completely off the table, but it definitely couldn't be further from mine and my partner's mind. We already share our lives together in all the ways that matter.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>2 | Stay at the same job</b><br />
This is probably the most important thing I didn't do. I always imagined that the first job you were hired at after college would be something that you would stay at a while and grow into. While this is true for many people still, it isn't always the case. Sometimes there's no where for you to grow and sometimes the job just isn't the right fit. All in all, I'm glad that I had the chance to move states and explore new opportunities. I would highly recommend that approach!<br />
<br />
<b>3 | Travel</b><br />
I list this not as a way of me saying that I don't travel, but to explain that travel isn't everything. I feel like the world today expects all young people to go on these great trips in far off places and learn great lessons. To me this is both impractical (how are these people paying for these things?!) and unreasonable with all the responsibilities given to newly minted college grads. That being said, I do believe in taking every opportunity available to travel and have been blessed with a job that allows me to travel West for business!<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>4 | Buy a house</b><br />
I am about as far away from purchasing a house as one could possibly get at the moment. I'm not even sure how someone decides to purchase a house, but maybe that's because most of the housing market in my neighborhood runs upwards of half a million dollars(!).<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>5 | Act like I have my life together</b><br />
The most shocking realization of turning twenty-five is that I didn't suddenly receive a book of knowledge on how to be an adult ⎯ I'm still winging it like everyone else I know! But no real surprise there as many of you know, I've been winging it since '92.

I've been reflecting quite a bit recently, what with my second big move since graduating and I thought my experiences and thoughts since leaving Georgia Tech may be of help to someone out there -- whether you are just starting off your freshman year or are a seasoned senior about to step foot into the professional world.<br />
<br />

<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrqNElcTYpuBE98a1WYGXYjhYMi1LsEpyNvXiM8m67uRkaMzJ6sKaaC4V7aGJcoUf6a2Cz24BVrXx7FSdCHImd2EOm5dXDn57exGWXLFAf9Y0gBJGw3Y8w4FyIdgUQcbkwwfnkHNTbxSLV/s1600/buzz.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrqNElcTYpuBE98a1WYGXYjhYMi1LsEpyNvXiM8m67uRkaMzJ6sKaaC4V7aGJcoUf6a2Cz24BVrXx7FSdCHImd2EOm5dXDn57exGWXLFAf9Y0gBJGw3Y8w4FyIdgUQcbkwwfnkHNTbxSLV/s1600/buzz.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Freshie me and Buzz circa 2010</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
1) <b>Be social. </b>I'm wondering how many Tech students will scoff at this piece of advice. But I'm going to give it anyway. Skip studying one night. Go out to that party, that bar, that concert. College is the easiest time in your life to be social. All of your friends are right there. They are your neighbors and your classmates and you deserve to have time to unwind and be social and live it up. You won't get many chances like that again, so don't let every moment pass you by because you are studying. BUT still make sure you study, because that's important too, which leads me to my next point...<br />
<br />
2) <b>Study smarter, not harder. </b>The hours sitting in front of a book do not always directly correspond to what grades are made. Your studying style is different from everyone else's and you are going to need to figure out what your style is to really succeed in your classes. Try different things and see what works best. Use all of your resources at your disposal (professors giving access to old tests, tutors, study groups) but only use them if they are beneficial to you. For me, I started shining once I found a study group. For you... well I don't know! Go out there and find it out!<br />
<br />
3)<b> Your first industry job may be awful.</b> This is mostly for seniors, but it's good to hear earlier on as well. Your first job is more than likely <i>not </i>going to be your dream job. The catch-22 that forms with needing experience to get a job but not being able to get experience because you can't get a job -- yea, that applies here. I'm not saying take whatever job gives you an offer first, but it's okay if you settle. It's okay if you're not exactly where you want to be when you start off your career. Just don't forget where you want to go. Once you forget where you want to be, that's when you are truly stuck.<br />
<br />
4) <b>You really do know best.</b> This doesn't not mean not to take advice from anyone, this simply means that you are the one living your life. You know yourself better than anyone else can and you know what's best for you. Go ahead, ask everyone for advice. Solicit advice from mentors, parents, friends, labmates, classmates, sorority sisters, fraternity brothers, even this blog post (!), but ultimately the decision you make should be yours, and yours alone.<br />
<br />
5) <b>Don't sweat it. </b>It is going to be okay. That grade, that class, that lab, that professor, that job interview -- it doesn't define you. If you get knocked down, it will be okay. Get back up, dust yourself off and keep going. All of us get knocked down. All of us had that one thing in college that felt like the end of the world. (If you were me, there were many times things felt like the end of the world.) But we all made it! You can do this. And if you ever feel otherwise, just remember that there is always help to those who seek it.<br />

Honestly, I probably started the coffee conversation and gave my soapbox cold brew speech--that's how into it I am. I wasn't a coffee drinker until college (<i>thanks Georgia Tech!)</i> and even then I usually just drank whatever iced coffee was the closest/cheapest. Actually there were many nights where I think I drank more than my body weight in simple Starbucks Iced Coffee. Not really caring about what it tasted like, as I just needed the sustenance to make it through the night (and usually the following day as well).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhblWTmIhknGKylpRCtK56oLUnl9URf-D925FTN4h8ED_ZjPvS0CDHR0Q7ycVEwN5brADqep4PU9t9OOegvj4QLv46Bnb6g5RhhLzN3T80oH65dQnMVJQT3sEYKdi1rf2s1OEKqUzObGIRy/s1600/IMG_0368.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhblWTmIhknGKylpRCtK56oLUnl9URf-D925FTN4h8ED_ZjPvS0CDHR0Q7ycVEwN5brADqep4PU9t9OOegvj4QLv46Bnb6g5RhhLzN3T80oH65dQnMVJQT3sEYKdi1rf2s1OEKqUzObGIRy/s400/IMG_0368.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Since graduating, while still drinking coffee for the caffeine, I drink greatly reduced amounts and try to savor my morning beverage of choice. I'm an iced coffee drinker due to the usual constant overheating I faced in the South (and still face during summer or lab days in the North) and so my obsession with anything containing the words iced/cold and coffee began.<br />
<br />
I've tried iced coffee at every coffee restaurant/cafe/chain that I've visited. Some are good, some are bad and some are unmemorable. Depending on where I buy iced coffee, I add various degrees of milk/cream and sugar/sweetener/flavor so that I can stomach the bitterness of the coffee as I do not typically like black coffee. Suddenly, as soon as I thought iced coffee was as good as it was going to get, I started noticing small batch cold brew coffee cropping up everywhere -- whether it be in cans in the organic isle or at the farmer's market in Lancaster, PA. At first I had no idea what it was and why it seemed to be gaining traction so I did a little research.<br />
<br />
Now bear with me as I am not a food chemist or a coffee brewer/roaster by profession but this is what I found out.<br />
<br />
I had always wondered why you can only use coffee grounds once, but can re-steep tea until there is no flavor left in the tea. If you "re-steeped" coffee grounds, you would get a disgusting bitter flavor that was only a shadow of it's previous self. This is due to the beans properties and what we consider coffee (and thus coffee flavor) to be comprised of. This bitterness is the same that is associated with black coffee -- and one of the reasons I always doctor up my coffee -- and is just bound to happen when you heat brew your coffee. Cold brew on the other hand is ground coffee brewed in cold or room temperature water for ~12 hours (typically overnight). The process allows for only the coffee flavor of the bean you want extracted to end up in your final product without the bitterness that comes from leaching out past that flavor. All of this may sound like another way for coffee stores to hike up prices on yet another type of drink, but believe me when I say it's the truth because I can drink cold brew coffee black (as mentioned earlier, this was previously an unspeakable act).<br />

<br />
And now we come to my homemade cold brew. I hate buying coffee every morning just like everyone else -- that money adds up quickly! So I started my journey to the perfect home cold brew system. I started with a Nalgene and coffee filters. This worked well enough but was both messy and time consuming. Not to mention sometimes the final product had a little bit more grit to it than I wanted. Finally I bit the bullet and bought a cold brew system on Amazon (<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Roboto, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 20.02px;"><a href="http://goo.gl/iIFyvx">http://goo.gl/iIFyvx</a></span>). I picked this system because 1) it's OXO and I trust them and 2) it allows the grounds to spread out in the water and thus give the best coffee flavor possible (something I learned from Teavana and their <a href="http://www.teavana.com/us/en/teaware/teavana-perfectea-makers/black-teavana-16-oz-perfectea-maker-011034893.html?navid=search&start=10" target="_blank">Perfect Tea Maker</a> strategy). It came with a recipe book and it gives me a cold brew coffee concentrate that lasts me a full week. Each morning I dilute a cap's worth with milk (because regardless of brew, I've found out I like a milky coffee) and I'm good to go. Delicious, perfect cold brew. If you are currently a coffee drinker and have grounds, coffee filters and sealable container you should cold brew some coffee tonight for your Monday morning routine. Trust me, you won't regret it!Kellyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09523973826552123666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2720866779394122866.post-63081545329115349512016-08-19T20:03:00.003-04:002017-07-20T01:22:17.705-04:00World Photo Day CelebrationToday marks the 166th anniversary of the release of the daguerreotype and is dubbed World Photo Day in celebration of it. Daguerrerotype is a type of processing that was dubbed more practical than previous types and allowed for public release of the process. Photography has come a long way since the 1800s, and we still continue to innovate. It's quite amazing that the average phone quality photo greatly surpasses many digital cameras that existed when I was in middle school (early 2000s).<br />
<br />
I wanted to celebrate Word Photo Day by posting some of my favorite photos that I've taken in the last few years with various cameras. All the photos listed were taken with one of the following: an iPhone, a Canon EOS Rebel T1i, or a GoPro Hero3.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheh1fZ6LCIRx-03EeRORM2ZNM19gCzG2GG3KgKd9DZWmgJgB0rxK0fxtdAsqxdoqN6aCG_PUSfN7Fz6ta6rmUGkbR7MRuGAYibcbD5IR8XIYDIOMAhNSnq3CZyRZzGN3uECq64tQXB59q2/s1600/IMG_0119.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEheh1fZ6LCIRx-03EeRORM2ZNM19gCzG2GG3KgKd9DZWmgJgB0rxK0fxtdAsqxdoqN6aCG_PUSfN7Fz6ta6rmUGkbR7MRuGAYibcbD5IR8XIYDIOMAhNSnq3CZyRZzGN3uECq64tQXB59q2/s320/IMG_0119.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Many things have happened in the year and half since my last post -- including a new job and a new town but those are only the most recent.<br />
<br />
I'm finally in a place where I feel I can blog again, and honestly the push to start it again comes from someone I just met at my new job. He sat in on my interview and I mentioned that I had a blog but hadn't updated it in a while. After I got hired he kept asking if I had taken the time to start it up again, and even though I wonder if it was just idle conversation, it has pushed me to start writing again.<br />
<br />
I also think the drive to pick up the metaphorical pen again is due to the place I'm currently in at this point in my life. Many people probably don't know, but the previous two years were some of the lowest points I have ever had -- and that's coming from a Georgia Tech graduate!! About half a year after starting my job at the lab, I found myself in deep in a cloud of depression and anxiety -- to the point where I was threatened of losing my job over it. I found myself at the doctor's office crying to a doctor I didn't know about how I just couldn't do it, and by it, I meant everything. She diagnosed me with OCD and prescribed me some medications. It took a lot to face the facts that I needed help and couldn't just "power through it" without medication. She told me about triggers and how facing my first northern winter could've done it. She recommended I take the medication for as long as I needed, but would eventually want to wane me off once I was at a stable place to see how I was doing. I stopped taking my medication 3 weeks ago -- after being on it for nearly a year and a half. I got away from the toxic in my life that was causing panic attacks and I feel comfortable in my own skin now. I feel comfortable at work -- which is not something I felt since I left my job at Georgia Tech. I think I stopped blogging a year and a half ago, because it was hard for me to write about the beauty in life when I couldn't see it myself -- and I'm so thankful to be where I am now.<br />
<br />
My advice to anyone who feels like they are in a similar situation is that it gets better. You will get better. Just take everything one day at a time and you will be able to change your situation and get yourself somewhere you need to be. As much as I wouldn't wish my experiences at the lab on anyone, I'm glad they happened. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't know how good I have it now.<br />
<br />

The summer of 2014 was the best summer I've ever spent. I not only got to live with one of my best friends, but I also go to work for and with some of the most amazing people I have ever met. There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about the times Elizabeth and I shared in that gorgeous apartment off of Ponce and the wonderful growth I experienced working at CAE.<br />

We had the chance to go because of our work offering bus tickets into the city for $25 round trip. I loved the city my previous two times visiting and knew I couldn't pass up a deal like that so I bought us tickets.<br />
<br />
It was about a two hour drive into the city. It's still odd for me to think that I live that close! We got to the city around 11:30 and stayed until 7 pm. Besides the fact that it started raining around noon and didn't stop even when we left, we had a delightful day.<br />
<br />
Our NYC day in a nutshell:<br />
<br />
First we visited the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. I don't have any pictures from the 9/11 Memorial and Museum out of respect because it just didn't feel right to publicize what I was witnessing in the museum. Hearing the voice recordings from that day and seeing artifacts from the buildings brought me to tears. The Memorial and Museum were so well done and so respectful. It really just made the attacks of that day seem so much more unreal.<br />
<br />
On our way to and from the Memorial and Museum, we wandered around NYC on the streets and subways. We wound up at this little hole in the wall Falafel restaurant that Daniel found on google. It was so small it only had enough space to order! It was delicious though.<br />

We also got to see the famous tree in Rockefeller Center. It was raining so we didn't get a good picture together but the tree itself was breathtaking. Probably the only thing I've scene in NYC that the movies didn't lie about in size!<br />

Radio City Music Hall and Time Square were both really packed areas and the umbrellas didn't help the chaos of people. We played a lot of umbrella wars.<br />

I wanted to find a pastry shop so badly. I had my heart set on Magnolia Bakery, but it was packed, so we googled some places and found Paris Baguette. It was delicious! Daniel and I ate the macarons (each for the first time!) on the bus ride home after having our delicious bento boxes.</div>

Overall we had a wonderful wet day. At the end of it I was sufficiently soaked (you can just see the water on my face above!) but extremely happy. I hope we can find some way to make a trip back soon especially since it's so close!<br />

<br />
I was selected for Influenster's Dean's List VoxBox! This is my second box of goodies to try from Influenster, and I have to say, it was my favorite one. The products in this box were things that I could see myself buying if I came across them in the store, and now that I have owned them I know I will be buying them again.<br />
<br />
The items in the box were:<br />
<br />
<ul>
<li>Playtex Tampons</li>
<li>Airheads Bites</li>
<li>Luden's lozenges </li>
<li>Softlips Cube</li>
<li>Sinful Colors #NoTextRed Polish</li>
<li>KISS Looks So Natural Lashes </li>
<li>FriXion Clicker (Erasable Pens)</li>
</ul>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My favorite items out of the bunch have to be the FriXion pens, Sinful Colors polish, Luden's and the KISS Looks So Natural lashes.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
First off, the FriXion pens... they actually work! They are erasable pens that are actually erasable--they aren't like the crappy "erasable" pens I remember having to buy when I was in elementary school! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The Sinful Colors polish is just a no brainer for me. I already loved Sinful Colors when I happened to find them in the store a few years ago. It's so cheap but is a great quality polish and they have probably every color of the rainbow. I'm excited to have their #NoTextRed color, especially since they are raising awareness to the dangers of texting and driving with the color.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Luden's was already a favorite product of mine. Whenever I get a sore throat, this is my go to product. I usually got the cherry flavor, and I like it, but it did get to be a bit too much cherry if I was sick a lot. I love that Luden's decided to come out with new flavors. The watermelon stays true to the original Luden's that I fell in love with and it's great. I've already needed to have a few drops because of scratchy throat due to weather changing. I don't even mind however, because they taste great and work so well.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have never used false lashes beyond the crappy kind they sell at the Halloween store, and even those I think I only used once. That's why I was so happy to get my hands on KISS Looks So Natural Lashes! The only thing I was worried about was applying them. Turns out, it's pretty easy even for beginners! All I had to do was pull the lashes from the packaging, put on the glue on with the easy applicator, wait for it to turn blue, and stick them on my eyelids right above my existing lashes. I also used an eyelash curler to curl my natural lashes into the false ones. You can see the final result below:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">It was really fun to wear them for a night out.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All of the products in this VoxBox were great and if you happen to pick one of them up the next time you're at the store, I know you won't be disappointed!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
If you know me, you know I am a total cat lover. I've grown up around them my whole life and always knew I would want a kitty of my own when I 'entered the real world'. So when I moved in with Daniel, one of my first questions was, "When can we get a cat?"<br />
<br />
Fast forward a few months and Daniel decided to surprise me with changing his answer from 'we're not ready' to 'yes' (and without me even asking first!)<br />
<br />
We thought that we would go visit the Humane Society to meet some kitties and see if any were right for us, but before we did that we knew we needed to get supplies. I decided to look at prices of things on Petsmart.com that weekend and found out that they were having a sale on a lot of cat stuff so we decided to go pick up supplies at the store.<br />
<br />
When we showed up at Petsmart, a local rescue, called Kitty Colony, had set up in the back of the store with cats up for adoption. I asked Daniel if we could look because I saw one that had a beautifully colored coat. I went up and talked to the lady who helps run the rescue and found out the kitty's name was Opal. She asked me if I wanted to hold her and as soon as I did, I knew she was meant to be ours.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
A week later, Daniel and I returned to Petsmart to take our precious Opal home with us. We are so happy we found her and she seems pretty happy to have found us as well. I have never heard a kitten purr so much! She also follows us around like our shadow--sometimes it's hard to walk because she's weaving in and out between our legs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMKD9zl3Bl58WJLgmSwGkNUTXxPYuX3_LVeIaA6WueSik8vJR8i6OWCnH7c7Fa7oNT_EdbiKED9RhMxhnDe2pWU71OFA6SlenWHDFp59jqL2UCm81Ut8cJu5wCgXzhHIL_GHEZkRQIjgoR/s1600/IMG_6197.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMKD9zl3Bl58WJLgmSwGkNUTXxPYuX3_LVeIaA6WueSik8vJR8i6OWCnH7c7Fa7oNT_EdbiKED9RhMxhnDe2pWU71OFA6SlenWHDFp59jqL2UCm81Ut8cJu5wCgXzhHIL_GHEZkRQIjgoR/s1600/IMG_6197.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Today we came home from work after leaving her alone for 8 hours and I swear it was like her Christmas morning when we came home. We got so much affection from her.<br />
<br />
Having a kitten to come home to makes me so happy. I love her so much already and I still feel like I barely know her. I'm so excited that we found Opal to have with us on our adventure.<br />

To everyone back in Georgia (or anywhere else) who might be confused about the roller coaster part, Hershey is home not only to chocolate but also to Hershey Park which is a theme park based on the sweet treats produced by the company. Daniel and I were able to snag some discounted tickets through his mom's work, so we drove the 45 minutes to Chocolate Town, U.S.A. and made a day of it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The roller coasters at the park were so much fun. It was nice to ride coasters that I've never been on before. Daniel had only been to Hershey Park once before and it was when he was in high school so the coasters were almost new to him as well. The nice thing about the discounted tickets was that it was for a day when the park was opened outside of regular hours, so we didn't have very many times where we had to wait to ride. In fact, we road 3 roller coasters within the first hour of being there, and on one of them we were the only ones on the ride/the first riders of the day!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also tried my luck at a crane game to prove to Daniel that I have certain crane skills that allow me to win more often than not. I was able to prove myself and win a cute little kiss doll much to Daniel's surprise.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Of course, no trip to Hershey would be complete without some type of chocolate consumption. So we ordered the best they had to offer. Deep-fried candy!</div>

I ordered the fried Kit Kat (pictured above) and Daniel ordered the fried Reese's. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After riding nearly (we didn't ride the Super Dooper Looper) every roller coaster in the park, Daniel and I called it a day before the masses decided to exit at park closing. Since we still had some time left, we decided to check out some shops. I was also determined to find some of the oversized candy I had heard about. We wound up finding our way to Hershey's Chocolate World which is just outside the amusement park. There we went on the free Chocolate Tour and found huge amounts of oversized chocolates. There was also cool chocolates like macadamia nut kisses!</div>

After such a great day, we ate in a restaurant in downtown Hershey called Chocolate Avenue Grill and got to drive down by the actual Hershey Factory. One of the coolest thing about downtown Hershey is that the lights are Hershey Kisses!</div>

They're perfect for listening to while driving around with your windows down letting the cool air whip through your hair.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOKGr_BhuTPHVXsxmtHL5hnTNsES-nP9uzhbq6VoOvBtaGDtaAx_rm5tvYyXtZGi3gkXTuQKDg12C6aEqBf18YoxOLftG0IP4cLBPS2ci7UoEO_BS6pOqjSwanmqC1eUM2RGXzGO3Ey2Wq/s1600/fallplaylist.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiOKGr_BhuTPHVXsxmtHL5hnTNsES-nP9uzhbq6VoOvBtaGDtaAx_rm5tvYyXtZGi3gkXTuQKDg12C6aEqBf18YoxOLftG0IP4cLBPS2ci7UoEO_BS6pOqjSwanmqC1eUM2RGXzGO3Ey2Wq/s1600/fallplaylist.png" height="640" width="454" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
You can listen to the music on a Spotify playlist <a href="http://open.spotify.com/user/125375501/playlist/2oSYOyTRMKvoDLDjH4gkiV" target="_blank">here</a>. I hope you enjoy it! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Do you have any songs that you are in love with right now?</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Some wonderful farmer's market finds! Sarah picked out the most perfect bouquet of wildflowers (painted with the Waterlogue app above) and we had a lot of fun arranging all the jalapeños in phrases.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
We stumbled upon the greatest little shop with all kinds of vintage cuteness and then ran across the street in the rain to this equally cool lunch spot. They were playing Pat Metheny on vinyl, so obviously I was impressed.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I had a wonderful weekend and am so thankful that I got to share my new town with Sarah!<br />

For one thing, I started my "big girl job" as a chemist on August 4th, but I also moved to a new place and have found myself starting to explore and put down roots. Here are my top favorite moments from this past month (in no particular order).<br />
<br />
1) Getting the chance to see Sam for the first time in two years (since we met at the 51st Biennial Conclave) || We went out to the Farmer's Market, mini-golfed in the middle of no where and got a delicious dinner at Lancaster Brewing Company.<br />

Mostly because I'm pretty new to the cooking world, considering I'm 22 years old but have only really cooked for the last three years. However, I had a meeting at work Tuesday where there was a potluck gathering of food. I wanted to impress my new coworkers with something inherently Georgia, so my mind set to work.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAS3TXEoG_Zds_iWp4JKC-skYO0pzcdKL8WRJjIExEnKxuuwrAV1UpM0vHcPzL6QOxdiY0y7wFcKj2CVZiqQwxSjLmbia-qcVU-JYwh16giyGeRhma_vwJPgiVhFgLKQ5S_zIHE2c3i1qN/s1600/2014-08-18+18.20.00.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhAS3TXEoG_Zds_iWp4JKC-skYO0pzcdKL8WRJjIExEnKxuuwrAV1UpM0vHcPzL6QOxdiY0y7wFcKj2CVZiqQwxSjLmbia-qcVU-JYwh16giyGeRhma_vwJPgiVhFgLKQ5S_zIHE2c3i1qN/s1600/2014-08-18+18.20.00.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
I soon realized that I should just make something, because after all, cooking is not much unlike chemistry--only you get to eat the product at the end of the experiment! I've been obsessed with the farmer's market peaches and decided I should make a cobbler (to give credit where credit is due, Daniel helped me make this decision)! I found a recipe online (here) that is the recipe for Mary Mac's Tea Room's peach cobbler recipe. And thus my cobbler adventure began!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
First I gathered up my ingredients.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ls5AEQAHSr7y29_FgjFXpix7eUHwSKVtuxh6952VjzdIrmUEKpyP2cqXpZxQiZbqvRxFQ-YqrhTQ0wXcY67f4oaIMMiGlHrOl3Rs3VZ8Q9esL38-0TZIqC8YDmUHn2j70KfXqkqq9UoL/s1600/2014-08-18+18.28.10+HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1ls5AEQAHSr7y29_FgjFXpix7eUHwSKVtuxh6952VjzdIrmUEKpyP2cqXpZxQiZbqvRxFQ-YqrhTQ0wXcY67f4oaIMMiGlHrOl3Rs3VZ8Q9esL38-0TZIqC8YDmUHn2j70KfXqkqq9UoL/s1600/2014-08-18+18.28.10+HDR.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Things to make a successful peach cobbler: be southern, love peaches, and have a "can-do attitude." ((The being southern part is actually optional))</div>
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Next I had to prepare the peaches.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXaXJodkoE9J8rAQOkpPf-XKrKpROekwLfyQJZGox0198shyur_4xQpE3WkukwkL3rkY-coNtTs6oqJZegVfuvSZB8scKHxiao7eeUoeftW7XzKIGXoOIlN0VqmymaTxzQBHJLV9SP9t9H/s1600/2014-08-18+20.28.25.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXaXJodkoE9J8rAQOkpPf-XKrKpROekwLfyQJZGox0198shyur_4xQpE3WkukwkL3rkY-coNtTs6oqJZegVfuvSZB8scKHxiao7eeUoeftW7XzKIGXoOIlN0VqmymaTxzQBHJLV9SP9t9H/s1600/2014-08-18+20.28.25.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This was perhaps the messiest I've ever gotten while cooking. The peaches were so good and ripe they had juices going everywhere</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then I prepared the dough for the top of the cobbler (twice, because I misread the instructions the first time).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikjnahay01kUGglu6x4EF4vxhSi8c-efbodj_GE-oOJvNmaUqjH5Kf9J5gaiIAq-ylbF9yauTBhgZbiYUf6r_sPbRcGBDfi8d9VOx_9ailp5YVrMtUiB0IY1T-E7ecdSfkOvVaf6AaEdND/s1600/2014-08-18+20.51.50.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikjnahay01kUGglu6x4EF4vxhSi8c-efbodj_GE-oOJvNmaUqjH5Kf9J5gaiIAq-ylbF9yauTBhgZbiYUf6r_sPbRcGBDfi8d9VOx_9ailp5YVrMtUiB0IY1T-E7ecdSfkOvVaf6AaEdND/s1600/2014-08-18+20.51.50.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I kept hoping this wouldn't turn out awful while slathering the top with butter (this part came only after slathering the inside with butter). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Nneb-5h2BW0uTfKcK0J3MFfEtI-FiBwTgL33ajo2RohvVVOgwR3OG5x-NGg9OPDJ9uKKbvGVI53Jp1b9mz_hSnR0NlAELeyMznoUtYdBY7Yj2CZ90eiD-r7vrsqz95L2sKXbi0UFKpFg/s1600/2014-08-18+21.43.19+HDR.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Nneb-5h2BW0uTfKcK0J3MFfEtI-FiBwTgL33ajo2RohvVVOgwR3OG5x-NGg9OPDJ9uKKbvGVI53Jp1b9mz_hSnR0NlAELeyMznoUtYdBY7Yj2CZ90eiD-r7vrsqz95L2sKXbi0UFKpFg/s1600/2014-08-18+21.43.19+HDR.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And I baked it for an hour and have my apartment smell like the beautifulness that can only come from homemade cobbler.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio60E42WsK09Q7mn1DdmqedagkPY3QmUJ-Et82RrDcNNLxmNkwJUmyB1PxccZB00LvVchmEpPHGNkPmDrx-t8SYVQRHwW-LNg4GsIXdUpBKdsmO7eOraOwEWVR8n_0oyeldBbT1ZTtAVAf/s1600/final.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio60E42WsK09Q7mn1DdmqedagkPY3QmUJ-Et82RrDcNNLxmNkwJUmyB1PxccZB00LvVchmEpPHGNkPmDrx-t8SYVQRHwW-LNg4GsIXdUpBKdsmO7eOraOwEWVR8n_0oyeldBbT1ZTtAVAf/s1600/final.jpg" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then I pulled it out of the oven and marveled at the fact that I seemed to have made a perfectly good peach cobbler, just like Mary Mac's. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And the next day during the meeting, I realized it tasted just as good as Mary Mac's too.</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
And to quote the lovely Hannah Hart because this did take me all night to make and sometimes it's just better to make a <a href="http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/recipe-detail.asp?recipe=278920" target="_blank">poor man's peach cobbler</a> because we've all got stuff to do...</div>

I drove my little Beetle bug 755 miles while my dad drove a budget truck full of my stuff from Atlanta, GA to Lancaster, PA. It was quite a feat that we completed in two days.<br />
<br />
The first day started with a sassy gay homeless man helping us parallel park the Budget truck on Ponce de Leon. He got out and stopped traffic in the middle of the road and everything without us even asking! My mom referred to him as our personal parking assistant and we tipped him once we were parked.<br />

I documented each state line with a video posted to my Snapchat story, which was quite fun--especially when my mom struggled to work Snapchat. I was going to go through and save all the videos, but I forgot within the 24 hours it gives you because of unpacking and spending the last few days with my parents that I would get until a good while.<br />
<br />
My parents stayed in the Marriott in downtown Lancaster so while they were here we walked around the city and enjoyed a bit of the nightlife.<br />

I've been settling into Daniel and I's apartment. There's only two boxes left, but there's still a lot to do until we both feel completely comfortable with where everything is. As far as moving states stuff, I've already gotten my PA license and everything is set up for my first day of work! I'm working on the last leg of my to-do list which includes everything involving getting a PA license plate and then I'll be a real resident here on paper. (I keep imagining people seeing my GA license plate and thinking "Daaayummm you drove a long way!")</div>

It's so surreal that my life has taken me on this journey. I'm still in disbelief that I'm here most days. Even in my dreams, I still dream of and in Georgia. Despite my love (and a little bit of missing) for Georgia, I'm so excited to make root here in such a beautiful new city and place!</div>
